No questions about what you're going to get with American Idiot: A Tribute to Green Day -- all Green Day all the time.
American Idiot, of course, is named after Green Day's iconic 2004 rock opera adapted as a Broadway musical in 2010. The St. Louis outfit was put together two years ago by drummer Eddie Spinaio (who portrays Tre Cool) and lead guitarist Dan Elder (Jason White). Elder appeared on the Sun Valley Jams stage in Battle of the Bands #2 as a member of Hollywood 5.
Elder said he was inspired by a burst of tribute bands appearing on the St. Louis music scene several years ago. He placed a couple of classified ads hoping to find other musicians to join him in a Green Day tribute. Spinaio came aboard, and the pair made their first effort five years ago. But it didn't work, they had a couple more false starts, and they put the idea on the back burner.
They revived the idea a couple of years ago, and this time it took. They found singer Eric Hendrickson (Billie Joe Armstrong) and bassist Dave Schrader (Mike Dirnt), "and it locked right in and came together quickly," Elder said.
Other than the band's Facebook page linked above, Elder keeps fans up-to-date on Twitter and a personal FB page. Here is a promo video the band has on YouTube:
I can't wait until Battle #3 Sunday , July 5th. Crazy musical talent that day.
