Countdown to Battle #4: The Faded Truth

Singer John French and guitarist Nick Maas formed The Faded Truth in 2007 with an idea to explore rock in all its different styles.

Bassist Terry Moses, guitarist Dustin Moses and drummer Joe Britt rounded out the band, which started becoming familiar to fans around the area. Jack Rogers replaced Moses after about a year, but TFT was building up steam.

The band got into the studio with producer James Whitlock to record an 11-track album in 2010. But just about the time that project was finished, things fell apart. The Faded Truth dissolved in 2011, before the album could get released.

Everyone went their separate ways, French recalled. Maas played with another band briefly but eventually sold all his equipment and called it quits. French also drifted away from the music scene for a couple of years.

But then French and Maas found themselves together one afternoon in 2013 writing an acoustic song about Maas' recent breakup. "When we finished it that same day, we said, 'We should go record this song,'" French said. "It wasn't even a month later we laid our tracks down -- mixed it, mastered it, sat back, looked at each other and said, "Why the hell are we not doing this?'"

Britt had moved to Arkansas, French said, but when he got wind that his former bandmates were thinking about regrouping, he returned. They recruited guitarist Derrick Greenwell, who has since left the band, and bassist Justin Keller, and The Faded Truth was reborn.

TFT never did release that 2010 album. French said it doesn't seem right to do it since the band got its fresh start. But the three-track This is My Life was released in February at Bandcamp and other outlets. The 2013 French-Maas recording, "Hollow is the Stone," is available at ReverbNation.
