Countdown to Battle #3: Slick Ice Blues

Slick Ice Blues, the Illinois bunch who got down and dirty with us in May at Battle of the Bands #1, will be the first band to make an encore appearance at Sun Valley Jams.

Best friends Dave "Ice" Collins and Will "Slick" Garner began forming the band in 2011 after what Garner called "an unforgettable trip to Memphis." On that trip, Garner said, the two guitarists "ingested some of the best blues we ever heard" and returned home to start work on a set list. They eventually rounded out their band when bassist Markus Pfile and drummer Ray Foster responded to an ad.

"This band is built with four guys that appreciate good music, the creativity and freedom in writing original music and helping others forget about things while we share the music we love -- blues," Garner wrote in an email.

Slick Ice Blues has performed in the Rock 'n' Roll Marathon Series, participated in the St. Louis regional event of the International Blues Challenge earlier this year and is slated for the Kaskaskia Blues Festival in New Athens, IL, on July 4.

Garner said Slick Ice Blues plans to release an EP before the end of the year. The band is polishing some original tunes in preparation for hitting the studio, he said.

Slick Ice Blues has posted five tracks at ReverbNation, including this original:

Update: Garner pointed out on Facebook that Bill Wolf recently replaced Foster as the drummer.
