Pogo Funk answered a late bell about three weeks ago to book the Sun Valley Jams Battle of the Bands Finale. The seven-piece funk/rap group from Festus knew why it finished second in Battle #1, caught a break when it got its late invitation to the Finale and acted quickly to overcome its earlier error.
Pogo Funk blasted away the competition Sunday by pulling together a huge contingent of fans and putting on a spirited performance that drew a near-perfect score from the judges to win the Finale in a sweep.
Illinois alternative band One Day also was close to perfect in the judges' eyes and brought a good group of fans to the event but was just a little short this time.
Pogo Funk wins a $2,000 cash prize from Sun Valley Jams for its Sunday success. The band will be interviewed Monday by Classic Rock 931 KBDZ in Perryville.
Now that this business is taken care of, Pogo Funk can now resume recording its second CD. The band just got its studio space set up when Sun Valley Jams came calling. The group tore down the studio setup to make room for rehearsal space, singer Christopher Breck said.
He didn't seem to be all that upset that the group will have to redo some work.
Here's a sampling of what did it Sunday for Pogo Funk:
